Rally Obedience
In Rally Obedience is a competitive dog sport in which the dog and handler navigate a course of designated stations (10 - 20, depending on the level). Each of these stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the skill that is to be performed. Unlimited communication from the handler to the dog is allowed and encouraged.
Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition and can provide a successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility.
Canine Good Citizen Program
The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as the first step in training their dogs. The Canine Good Citizen Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events.
The test is consists of 10 exercises that are designed to indicate whether a dog has the basic manners necessary to be well-behaved in public. The AKC has recently expanded the CGC to become a title, so dogs can list the achievement after their registered name. Passing the CGC test provides a good base for those looking to go on to pet therapy (visiting hospitals, hospices, libraries or universities to console and support other people) with their dog.
Canine Good Citizen Prep Class
In this ongoing class you and your dog will learn the skills necessary to pass the 10-part Canine Good Citizen test. This class is continuous; each week will focus on a different test item. This will accommodate those who attend weekly as well as those whose schedules don’t allow regular attendance.
These skills provide a good starting place for those wanting to do pet therapy, for those looking to improve their overall obedience training and bond with their person, as well as those who plan to take the CGC test. CGC testing will be offered periodically. Drop ins are welcome. Sign up today!

Dogs should be wearing a buckle or martingale collar. No pinch collars.
A 6’ leash (no flexi leashes)
Plenty of small, soft treats.
A bait bag is helpful.
A favorite toy if your dog is toy driven.
A crate is helpful to give your dog “down time” when they are not actually working.
Rally Obedience Class
In this on-going class, we will create courses to help your dog hone their basic obedience skills and improve their connection with you. Nested courses allow the class to accommodate all levels from Novice through Excellent. Individualized instruction is provided for each team. This class is perfect for those handlers looking to improve their overall performance and prepare to compete as well as those looking for something fun to do with their dog. Drop ins are welcome.
