Scent Work
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and Nose Work helps tap into this incredible innate ability. When competing, dogs are expected to find specific odors -Birch, Anise and Clove - in four separate elements - containers, interiors, exteriors and on a vehicle - in a limited amount of time. Any dog can participate in this activity, regardless of their age, breed or physical limitation (blind, deaf, cart-user, etc). Even dogs who have reactivity toward other dogs are welcome to participate. Nose Work can help dogs increase their overall confidence, lessen certain behavioral issues while working them out mentally and physically. Best of all, dogs love the opportunity to do what they are hardwired to do: use their nose!
Intro to Scent Work Class
In this class we go through the foundations of nose work. We start by teaching your dog to hunt for their reward, food or toy. Then when they are hunting independently and enthusiastically we introduce them to odor. Handlers will learn how odor works, moves and how to better read their dog’s body language to determine when their dog is crittering, hunting, in odor and at source.
There are many advantages to Nose Work: it will tucker out your dog mentally AND physically, taps into an innate ability and is really easy and economical to practice at home.
Dogs of any age, breed and physical limitation (blind, deaf, cart-users) are welcome to participate. Those dogs who are reactive to other dogs must wear red bandanas. We request those dogs who are aggressive toward people not attend these classes. We will be happy to work with these dogs privately.
All dogs will be expected to stay in their vehicle or crate in between their individual run. Get involved in one of the fastest dog sports, sign up today!

Advanced/Skills Nose Work Class
Now that you and your dog are hooked on Nose Work, it is time to take the game to the next level!
This class is for ongoing nose work students who are on odor and working on patterns and problem-solving. Your dog will be introduced to hunting specific odors in containers, exteriors and on a vehicle. Dogs will be posed with increasingly difficult odor problems and you will be given the skills to help them fully navigate a search area without getting in the way.

Whether you are attending your first trial or are a seasoned competitor, this class will allow you and your dog to hone your skills to ensure those Q’s and placement ribbons keep coming your way.
Exercises are designed to stretch and test your handling skills, push your dog’s endurance while providing them with essential learning moments that will carry over to trial. All of this is done in a fun, supportive and educational format that will be enjoyable for dog and handler alike.
